what do you mean by "cutting the base"? is there a sharp edge that needs to be sanded? maybe you are using the wrong size base ring?

Isn't there a small version of the CB6000?

Otherwise, sorry can't help... I have and use a CB3000 and the only mod I've had to do is clip the outside guide bars down to be flush with the back of the base ring.
