Following a couple of recent events I thought it might be useful to have a bit of a discussion on the topic of fakes and catfish, again.

Who they are and why they do it is something we've discussed many times and if you have something to add please do leave your comments below but today I wanted to do a bit of a practical "how to" for anyone wondering just how to spot a fake.

Most of the time it becomes obvious pretty quickly, and I'm not talking about those who are unwilling to send photos as there are plenty of legit reasons for that, no I'm talking about the kind of more subtle (and not so subtle) clues that come out as you interact with a fake or catfish who does send you photos.

Most often one of the giveaways is an immediately willingness to perform quite extreme acts, often with extremely elaborate reporting that seems, well, too good to be true. It's an odd paradox that so many of these extreme subs are oddly camera shy, or if they do offer photos they always seem to be out of focus, strangely cropped and tiny.

A great example of this was, for those that may remember the variously named Joanne Tan (aka hornylittleplaytoy, etc, etc) was someone catfishing on Kink Talk when I first arrived here. This one wasn't shy with photos but the quality was, um, terrible.

jtan1.jpgjtan2.jpgjtan3.jpgjtan4.jpgjtan5.jpg

Here's just a little sample of "her" photos posted right here in our media galleries. These were, for the most part, taken from a website called Pacific Girls which provided thousands of photos of Japanese girls. But this catfish didn't bother to stick to just one model and used various different ones often with terribly photoshopped body writing included.

Reusing someone else's photos is a common tactic. If you find someone is forthcoming with photos but they always seem to be oddly cropped, tiny and/or blurry there is a high chance they using collected photos from the web. A big giveaway here is requests for photos taking a while to be done, what should be a 10 second snap on the phone takes days to get back to you. Searching for just the right shot online takes time.

Now photoshopping is another thing entirely, sometimes people get more ambitious and go for something altogether more elaborate. Here's an example posted by a new member several years ago purporting to be "her".

82A415EB-87A7-4655-A720-8E684298693D.jpgA35F5CC6-D647-4C6E-B4DB-DD8F7C633A41.jpg

In each of these examples is the image posted here on the left, and the corresponding image I found quite quickly from a pro website. The instant giveaway here was the pro posing, who does that? Trying too hard and despite passable photoshop work still an obvious fake.

"But I've been chatting to someone and I know they're genuine because they sent me proof when they wrote out a sign I told them to do." Well yeah about that...

948_1000.jpg

Now this one was tougher to find the source but it was faked. The original photo had a sign and fingers even fairly plausibly inserted proclaiming these photos should be exposed. As you can see by flipping the original and adding in the sign then doing some softening and colour manipulation it becomes a passable image that will fool the too keen quite easily.

Ok so that's just a tiny sample of the kind of manipulation that can happen, I've seen a few better but in general most are more in the Joanne Tan style, awful obvious fakes.
So what about genuine photos, what helps you make sure they're genuine? Well for a start they will usually be in a normal format and size, colour will be natural and most tellingly they will look like, well home made selfies. Now most people these days take fairly decent selfies, phone cameras are excellent even in low light and so the photos usually look pretty decent. Another key factor is the background, most subs will be taking photos on their bed, the room, the bed etc will be the same in most photos.
Genuine photos are less posed and better quality, more real and recognizably so.

Here's a good example from Sub A, a simple task to hang some specific items from her nipples. See how all the photo match, she's wearing the same clothes in the same room. Not a bunch of random photos of odd sizes, weird and blurry that just don't look like they were taken at the same time.

Anyone should be able to get photos as good as these, it's not hard, in fact phones now make it easy.

Photos are not something to be assumed or expected, it's a deeply personal choice and for many not supplying them is quite the most sensible choice. But if someone does send you photos, maybe a little too willingly that seem a bit odd, maybe too good to be true, look again and just be sure what you're looking at isn't just what you wanted to see.

Well... I only recently registered here, but roam the internet for quite a while now. My first rule of thump is that I assume every picture to be fake. My second rule of thump is that I play as if everything was real for the duration of the session. My third rule of thump is that I don't provide pictures. I never had any problems when I sticked to those rules.

Fakes bad catfish. I got tons of backlog posts about this subject lol. I’ll have to dig back but for now

When someone uses kik but spells it k!k or k1k etc.

With regards to kik or other messengers search the screenname here. That’s how I find most repeat offenders. (Looking at you mistressfaith)😂

Screennames in general adding a 1 or extra numbers to the name each time. Yes it’s not a guarantee but it’s damn sure common for fakes.

Google the kik or snap name. You’ll find them plastered all over the internet seeking things and prob dif ages etc.

Use Reverse image look up. When it’s looking pornstar quality it’s probably that exactly. You’ll find they’ve just grabbed random internet pics as @droptokon stated above.

The post will be about a domme seeking but profile will state they’re male sub or Dom. It works both ways so check posts content vs profile info

Age discrepancies in posts and profile. Or as I’ve seen lots before ages that fluctuate based on comparing their old posts to new ones. 27 today but was 32 last week and was 21 two months ago

Check peoples profiles here it’s a easy one. See their post history. You not only can find fakes catfish signs but also see those “doms” who are seeming like they match your needs from your post almost perfect until you see the shit show they normally carry.

So along that line. Fake but not in the sense of the beginning of this thread. People will cater their answers to whatever makes the match seem right. All of a sudden they’re experts in “training” “mentoring” they change who they are just to fit what you seek. Ask details call them on their prior posts and bullshit. Don’t fall for it.

Bad grammar. I’m using this one loosely based on a prior discussion I had here. I’m not saying that language translation isn’t without its faults. But spammed caps or alternating and brackets in the middle of words etc. sloppy bad written clearly rushed posts.

Me personally if I go to their profile and it’s private or doesn’t share post history I write them off as fake and move on as if they don’t exist here. This isn’t a guarantee. But it’s just my way of ensuring it’s not time wasted on fakes.

Locations. If you’re not familiar with countries states territories this one might take googling. Example is on here when one posts a California state with an city or town clearly not in Cali. It’s probably bullshit. Add in the bad English and it’s a shoe in. Again see the prior line about grammar.

A great post, but I would like to clarify one thing. Kinks can change with time, so take this one with a grain of salt. But that's probably a good measure anyways.

Hmm, yes the fake ones are easy to spot, problem and reason for the post is more the well made ones, those where you would have to more or less CSI every picture to spot them.
Recently I was possible lead on for a month, still 50/50 whenever or not real person or catfish, as @droptokon mentioned, reporting was top notch with quite well made pictures, not a single fuckup in ~25.000 words written, minor inconsistency with some pics that still stand first and second glance.
And tbh, I dont want to come off as overly cautious, analysing every tiny detail, so I go more or less with @subdreams rules, beeing carefull as if they were fake, treating play as real and only sending pics myself I would be comfortable seeing on the front page of Google.
I'm not even verified yet here after 2+ months (cause I'm lazy). But still verryfied quite deeply with my current playmate/sub, but thats the first time a playmate requested it so just pushing feels weird.

On this note: kik, there are quite well made chat bots on kik, trying to get you to register on steam sites, actualy analysing text messages and reacting more or less smart.
If wanted I could compile a collection.

Cheers.

A common thing here is desperation, if as @subzzzero mentioned they suddenly change interest entirely then flip back again it's often they are simply following what's asked for in ads.
For sure people do adjust their kinks over time but when you see someone who seems to be expert in anything that's mentioned you can usually assume they're really just desperate to find, anyone.

Yeah, that's for sure. I guess one should use common sense in what changes are natural and which are red flags. You just need to keep in mind that people tend to change due to circumstances. With friends I'm different than in my job. So it's only natural, that people might have different kinks in different circumstances. A couple examples to give a bit more clarity: One might like hypnosis as a dominant, while having hypnosis as a limit as a submissive. Or one might like oral with males, but have it as a limit with females. Or one might love pain while in long term denial and strongly dislike it with a recent orgasm. If one looks for long term play, they should mention those irregularities if relevant. If one looks for short term, there might be no chance for the circumstances to change, e.g. while in long term denial with a chastity device and looking for a short time play.

Thanks for posting this informative article on differentiating these fake and fishy accounts from the real ones. It was very informative, although I still have some questions that aren't answered yet.
