What would be a good starting idea for a person who has never taken an exposing picture before?

Make sure you're comfortable with the content of the pic.

I always make sure to only include my body and a plain colored background, nothing else. So even if that pic is slipped out to the internet, it can't really be traced back to me.

I avoid face completely.
